Are Your Big Boobs Causing Big Problems?

US lingerie company Intimacy (now merged with London retailer Rigby & Peller) found that the average bra size for Americans has gone from 34B to 34DD in the last 20 years. Florence Williams, author of “Breasts: A Natural and Unnatural History”, revealed a similar study that found the average cup size to be a 36 C.

Do You Need Snap, Crack and Pop Relief Treatment

Do You Need Snap, Crack and Pop Relief Treatment
You might already have conclusions on chiropractors, but the practice is becoming more and more popular. The most common ailment is back pain; in fact, 31 million Americans report back pain each year. Chiropractic care is an alternative to other therapies and sometimes surgeries, giving the body a chance to heal on its own. It’s literally a hands-on approach to recovery and pain relief.
Before seeing a chiropractor, be sure your pain is not due to slipped or herniated disks or other possible injuries. Chiropractors are equipped to handle soreness, misalignment, inflammation and most musculoskeletal issues. They will use force with their hands to relieve tension, perform assisted stretches and manipulate the body. It might be slightly uncomfortable at times, but never painful.
Acute pain is usually relieved with the help of chiropractic adjustments. This type of painis brought on by sudden trauma, like a twist or strain when moving heavy objects or muscle tension from a car accident. Adjustments can provide you with temporary relief to get back to your normal routine.
Chronic back pain is often associated with posture issues, obesity, genetics, lifestyle (texting too much?), lifting form, diseases or infections, poor bone density and more. Depending on the cause, chiropractor care could be an excellent complement to your therapy or treatment. You can always check with your doctor first, but you do not need a referral.

You can expect temporary relief from adjustments and treatments, scheduling them a few times a month to a few times a week, at most. Chiropractic care is not seen as a one-time stop, but an on-going approach to recovery.
Pregnancy and children
Pregnancy can give a mom-to-be some pretty intense hip and back discomfort. Check out the options near you and look for a chiropractor with specific accreditations: DACCP, CACCP, ICPA member or Webster certified. The chiropractor is trained to adjust around your growing belly without applying pressure to your abdomen. Many women experiencelordosis, which is an emphasized curve of the lower back due to all the weight out front. Ouch. Your posture and skeletal system will shift as the muscles relax, so it’s normal for pregnant women to seek tension relief with adjustments. The American Pregnancy Association backs reports of chiropractic care providing healthier pregnancies, reduction of nausea and even a lowered risk of Caesareans.

Massage therapy is often accompanied by adjustments and most chiropractor offices have an in-house therapist who is often covered by insurance!
Babies and children have been patients of chiropractors before:,
due to their quickly developing and growing musculoskeletal systems. Infants are more likely to be taken forreflux, colic, ear infections and other internal issues. Now, this is clearly a parent’s choice, based on research and pediatric guidance. Growing toddlers and school-aged children often experience growing pains, or sometimes basic wellness care. There are several studies showing opposing conclusions (begin with this article here), so it’s important for a parent to draw his or her own, but know that the option is out there.

FDA Clears New Treatment Targeting Cellulite

How many products have you purchased with the hopes of reducing the appearance of cellulite? Lotions and creams may come second to exercise, but the desperation to get rid of that bumpy layer of skin is real, culminating in invasive, expensive and borderline dangerous medical procedures. The good news is that the FDA has approved a simple, non-invasive treatment targeting cellulite.

The Cellfina System is an outpatient procedure that combines technology and a well-established procedure called “subcision” to attack the primary structural cause of cellulite. Subcision uses a small blade to cut beneath the skin and cut the bands of connective tissue that cause the bumpy look of cellulite, causing the dimples to be released. Cellfina promises to rid your trouble areas of cellulite for an entire year.
And although the treatment does seem more promising than lotions and creams, critics warn that the $3,000 to $6,000 procedure is not a magical cure.
“For a lot of people that have diffuse cellulite, say all over their butt and their thighs, it’s not gonna fix everything,” said New York plastic surgeon Sharon Giese.
Interested in Cellfina? You can sign up to receive a notification when a doctor near you offers the procedure.

What Is Water Weight and Should You Lose It?

Water weight isn’t as concrete as muscle or fat, but it is real and it can affect the number you see on the scale each day. While some people experience chronic fluid retentionbrought on by hormones, kidney issues or medications, bloating or temporary water weight is likely caused by one of the following lifestyle choices and can be treated and avoided without medical attention.
Too much sodium:
If your diet is high in salt content, your body will retain water to dilute the salt in your body and balance the sodium to water ratio, then it will flush the excess out.
Lack of activity:
A sedentary lifestyle slows your body’s fluid and waste processes, as you aren’t burning fat and releasing sodium from your body.
Dehydration:
When you’re dehydrated, your body tends to hold water so as to maintain balance between salt/fluid. Until you’re fully hydrated, that water isn’t being flushed out of your body and can make you appear bloated.
So how do you get rid of this pesky water bloat and reveal those abs and lean muscles you’ve been working so hard for? Try a combination of these five tips to reduce water retention and create a healthy balance for your body.
1. Sweat it out:
Sweat is mostly comprised of sodium leaving your body, so intensify your workout or attend a hot yoga class to activate those sweat glands. You’ll flush out the salt that’s creating an imbalance, as well as other toxins, allowing your body to start fresh. Make this step one on your journey to living healthier!

2. Say no to salt:
Since excess sodium is the most common culprit of water retention, try to limit the salt you consume daily to avoid waking up feeling bloated. Choose low-sodium options when available and avoid frozen dinners, fast food or takeout.
3. Skip Sweets:
Sugar raises insulin levels, which slows your body’s ability to rid itself of sodium. Avoiding high sugar treats or feeding your sweet tooth with fresh fruits and veggies is an easy way to beat the bloat.
3. Drink up: It may seem counterproductive, but dropping water weight is all about finding a water/sodium balance for your body. Drinking between a half gallon and gallon of water each day will keep you hydrated and will cycle fluid through your body faster.

glass of cold water
4. Limit alcohol consumption:
Unfortunately for some, a nightly glass of cabernet doesn’t take the place of water. Alcohol dehydrates your body, so if you’re looking to keep belly bloat down, say no to a night of drinks or drink a glass of water between rounds and set limits for yourself.
5. Eat natural diuretics:
Consuming high-fiber foods that aid in digestion will help regulate your waste-removing processes and flush excess water from your body. Try adding yogurt, brown rice, dandelion root or all-natural cranberry juice to your diet!

Tips to Alleviate Back Pain During Pregnancy

Yes, it is almost inevitable—the dreaded back pain during pregnancy. Luckily there are a few things you can do to significantly reduce your back pain to a comfortable level.
Because your stomach area is now extended, the alignment of your spine tends to move into a position that it is not used to. This misalignment also puts stress on the spine which can cause a great deal of discomfort and lower back pain. One of the best ways to avoid this is to pay close attention to your posture, especially when you’re sitting. You want to be sure, if sitting for more than a few minutes, you sit in a chair that has a straight back and arms as well as a firm cushion. You should use a foot rest to keep your feet slightly elevated and be sure not to cross your legs, which can cause misalignment or lack of support from your hip and pelvis area. If you’re going to be sitting for a while, try to get up and stand, stretch or take a few steps at least once every hour.
Another thing you can do to prevent lower back pain is to make sure you’re wearing the right shoes. While you probably know you shouldn’t be wearing super high heels, you should also try to avoid wearing shoes that are completely flat. The best heel height would be about 2 inches, this helps keep the spine in a good alignment.
If the damage has already been done and you’re feeling that pain you can soothe the sore back muscles by applying an ice pack wrapped in cloth for 15 minutes, then switch it to a heating pad for 15 minutes. You could also take a hot bath or let a warm shower soothe your back (this works best if you have a pulsating shower head as it acts as a massage).
There are also a few stretches you can do to prevent back pain from getting worse. For the first one you sit with your behind elevated on a folded blanket or short stool, without it being under your thighs. Then fold your right knee to your side at a 90 degree angle so that your right heel touches your right groin. Then place a strap, belt or sock around the sole of your left foot, straighten your arms and lift your chest. Then while contracting your thigh, extend the sole of your left foot forward. Press off your sit bones equally and stretch your spine vertically and rotate your right thigh outwards while your torso is facing the left leg. Hold this stretch for 10 deep breaths then release and repeat on the other side.
Another stretch is the simple squat. Stand with your feet just a little wider than hip width apart. Inhale, then as you exhale squat to the flower lowering your buttocks to the maximum squat position you feel comfortable with. Then place your hands on the floor right in front of you and as you inhale press your hands into the floor. You will then raise your buttocks and sweep your arms out to your sides. While you can squat deeper each time you do this, be sure you’re not straining anything and your feet remain firmly on the floor and you always use your hands pressing into the floor to help you come out of the squat.

3 Tips to Avoid Afternoon Tiredness

If there is one time of day when I always seem to drag and need a nap, it is always around 2:00-3:00 PM. I would love to say that I could just take a nap at this time (don’t we all) but with a baby, working, and trying to keep a family napping isn’t really an option and I am sure that it isn’t for you either. Here lately, I have been trying different things out to help me stay more alert during this time of day and I am actually seeing some improvements. Let me know if any of these tips work for you or if you have any other tips that I should add to this list as I am always looking for new ways to beat my afternoon tiredness.

Avoid dehydration

This one is a biggie for me! I can tell a huge difference in my energy levels when I have stayed hydrated by drinking my water and when I haven’t. If I don’t make a conscious effort to drink water throughout the day, it is very easy for me to forget and fill up on food and other drinks. To prevent fatigue, drink as many fluids as possible and remember to watch your caffeinated beverages as caffeine is naturally dehydrating.

Have a breakfast full of fiber

There have been numerous studies showing that fiber helps fight fatigue but I have also found that it helps keep me full throughout the day and when I have it first thing in the morning, I tend to eat less throughout the day as I’m not as hungry, so it is a double bonus. I love getting fiber from oatmeal, whole grain cereals, and berries.

Get in a quick workout

I don’t mean hit the gym or workout for an hour. Just a simple 5-10 minutes of stretching, walking outside, or simple exercises you can do in your office. A workout could even be taking the stairs instead of the elevator on your way back from lunch to get an afternoon pick-up. I have found just a few minutes of exercise or a quick mini-workout leaves me feeling energized and ready to conquer the rest of my day.

5 Foods to Avoid During ‘That’ Time of the Month

Aching, cramping, bloating, cravings — a seemingly unending cycle of angst that rides right alongside menstrual cycles, especially in young girls. It should come as no surprise that premenstrual symptoms (PMS) are heavily impacted by the food we eat. PMS comes in many forms: physical issues (headaches, cramps, bloating) and psychological issues (depression and irritability). A study done by the Georgetown University School of Medicine exhibited that women who ate mainly vegetable- and fruit-based diets instead of the traditional meat, dairy and sugar based diets saw a decrease in “the duration and intensity of the pain and discomfort associated with PMS and the menstrual cycle.”

Based on these studies that correlate processed foods, salt intake and sedentary lifestyles with a more difficult period cycle, scientists recommend that women of child-bearing years adopt healthy lifestyles and eating habits. Even if you’re already leading an active and fresh-food lifestyle, it is still important to make sure that those trends continue up to, and through, the visit from Aunt Flo. The cravings are real, but so is the pain! Thus, we present you withfive foods you should avoid during your monthly cycle.
1. Coffee:
Researchers at El Minia in Egypt surveyed 253 female students about their dietary habits, and found that 92.3 percent of women who drank coffee daily had regular or increased PMS. Women who consume caffeine more often will likely have worsened PMS because of hormonal imbalances in the body. While coffee is great for small bursts of energy, the crash afterward is oftentimes so debilitating; combine that with the sluggish feelings you already get from your period (and feelings of indigestion), and you have an unhappy combination!

2. Fatty meats:
Saturated fats can worsen your feelings of pain and inflammation during your period. PMS Comfort writes that too much saturated animal fats creates a “pro-inflammatory environment” in your body, meaning increased bloating, cramping and bad moods. Instead of hamburgers and fried chicken, eat lean red meats that contain lots of iron and fresh fish that contain tons of omega-3 fatty acids. Try this honey mustard glazed salmon for some healthy protein!

3. Processed, packaged, and bagged foods:
The potato chips, beef jerky and even just a tablespoon of ketchup are overloaded with sodium. Because sodium makes your body retain water, decreasing your intake of sodium may help decrease the bloat! Here are some easy ways to cut sodium.

4. Refined sugars:
No, we’re not talking about dark chocolate here! Dark chocolate has mood-boosting omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and contains much less sugar than milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is essential for… well, life. What needs to be avoided here are the ice creams, baked goods, milk chocolates and candies. Combining a lot of refined sugars can aid in the production of acne, and also increases water retention. Not to mention that refined sugars give very short bursts of energy that can lead to awful mood swings later.

5. Alcohol:
A PMS health guide released by The New York Times states that prolonged cramping can be expected when a woman drinks more alcohol in the days leading up to her period. Alcohol also lowers your blood sugar, meaning more fatigue, and makes your breasts more tender. Even though all the aches and pains may seem like the perfect excuse to kick back with a glass of bubbly, try to resist the temptation!

16 Tips to Stay Healthy During Cold Season

Cold season typically starts in August, with cold incidents rising until it peaks in February — so folks, your chance of catching the sniffles only goes up from here. Take precautions and follow these 16 simple steps to help reduce your risk and keep you functioning at your best.

1. Wash your hands:.
OK, so it’s an obvious one, but it’s also a crucial one. You should be washing your hands frequently, especially during cold season and particularly after using the bathroom, blowing your nose or coughing/sneezing into your hands (which you shouldn’t do anyway — use the crook of your elbow) and touching waste (e.g., taking out the trash or changing a baby’s diaper). Always wash your hands before preparing food or eating. And do it right! This isn’t hand “rinsing.” Use the soap and wash for AT LEAST 20 seconds.

2. Keep a clean workspace.
Potentially harmful germs tend to accumulate in the areas you use the most — this includes your workspace. “Computer keyboards, telephones, doorknobs, pens that are given to you when you sign for a credit card purchase or in a doctor’s office — all of these are surfaces that have great potential for harboring germs,” says Neil Schachter, professor of medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, on WebMD.
Use antiseptic wipes to give your phone and desktop a good sanitizing. And beware of other germy places at the office — a recent study found these places harbored the most bacteria: breakroom sink faucet handles, microwave door handles, keyboards, refrigerator door handles, water fountain buttons and vending machine buttons.

3. Exercise.
The benefits of exercise are endless — and cold prevention happens to be one of them. According to WebMD, increasing your heart rate for just 20 minutes three times a week helps increase immune function. Not big on aerobics? Try taking a brisk walk five days a week — it can also lower your chance of catching a cold.
It’s important to note, however, that too much of a good thing — including exercise — can be detrimental. While moderate exercise can boost the immune system, more than 90 minutes of high-intensity endurance exercise can leave you susceptible to illness for up to 72 hours after your workout. Moderation and consistency is key!

4. Stop touching your face.
Since we use our hands to pick up things, shake hands and do practically everything, they tend to accumulate a plethora of germs. Even if you’re washing your hands frequently, there are plenty of opportunities to re-contaminate.
You might consider it common sense to not touch your face with those hands, but one study showed that people, on average, touch their faces 3.6 times every hour. It may take some focus and self-training, but teach yourself to keep your hands away from your face. Your immune system will thank you for it.

5. Buy some Lysol for your home:
If you really want to prevent future colds, you should become BFFs with disinfectants like Lysol, which you can use to spray frequently touchedareas of the home, such as keyboards, door knobs, drawer handles, light switches and remote controls.
doorknob
6. Have some wine.
Now there’s a preventive strategy you can really get behind! Moderate drinking — particularly red wine — has actually been linked to higher cold resistance, except in smokers (don’t smoke!).
Researchers have two theories that could possibly explain this effect: According to Rodale, alcohol could limit the replication of cold viruses or could have an anti-inflammatory effect that suppresses the production of mucus. As always, moderation is important — heavy consumption of alcohol could have the opposite effect, suppressing the immune system.

Your Low Libido Affects Your Health More Than You Think

HEALTH : WOMEN'S HEALTH

Sure, we all experience those moments when the thought of getting down and dirty with our partner triggers a wave of sheer exhaustion. As a mother, you have a lot on your plate, and sometimes just don’t have the energy. That doesn’t necessarily mean there is something wrong with your libido! However, if you realize that you are scrimping on sex more and more frequently, you may be suffering from a condition known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder, or HSDD. It is estimated that this disorder affects at least 1 in 10 women at some point in their lives, and can be incredibly damaging to our mental health. Keep reading to learn more.
Hypoactive sexual desire disorder is a type of female sexual dysfunction (FSD), and can impact women of all ages. Unfortunately, the causes of HSDD are not well known or understood. Nearly half of premenopausal women admit that they have suffered from low sexual desire at some point in their lives, and experienced negative emotional distress as a consequence.
Some of the primary characteristics of hypoactive sexual desire disorder include:
  • The absence of sexual fantasies
  • No desire for sexual activity, which often results in distress or interpersonal difficulties
  • Lack of desire that cannot be attributed to any other medical or psychological problems
The effects of HSDD can be particularly debilitating for women. Those who suffer from this condition often experience low self esteem and self confidence, a negative body image, decreased or strained communication with their partner, and a lack of connection with their partner. The longer HSDD goes untreated or unidentified, the more emotional distress it can cause women.
stressed woman can't fall asleep
Although the FDA recently approved a drug to enhance women’s sex drive, there are some other options available for women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Many doctors recommend utilizing relaxation techniques to reduce mental issues like stress and depression. Relationship counseling and sex therapy are also incredibly effective methods of treating HSDD. Doctors may also prescribe products like estrogen creams (to eliminate painful intercourse), erectile dysfunction drugs (to increase arousal), testosterone (to boost hormone levels), and an antidepressant called Wellbutrin (which does not lower sex drive like most antidepressants).
Nearly 85 percent of women with HSDD believe that a low sex drive hurts the level of intimacy in their romantic relationships. Don’t let this condition disrupt your love life! Suffering in silence will get you nowhere, so if you believe that you are a victim of HSDD, communicate with your doctor to learn more about your treatment options.
